After reading this article I have realised that my partner and I have never tried anything mentioned within the 7 tips. We constantly argue over stupid silly little things to a point where I am always packing my bags threating to leave him.
We are definately going to try out every tactic here and I know it will make a vast improvement on the way we handle arguing.
I definitely needed to read this like a year ago lol I had to almost learn the hard way I’m going to read this next time I think about starting an argument.
Boy this sure speaks to me. I am in a relationship with my fiance who i really think enjoys arguing with me. He will find the smallest things and argue them with me until it turns into this enormous “fight”. It is usually something very small that sets it off and then it spirals down into this horrible thing. His arguing usually comes with name calling and a lot of putting down. I have this terrible shut down problem that i have been battling with since childhood when i feel under attack i shut down and lose all energy and my thinking is not longer clear. This infuriates him even more. I have communicated him time and time again that this is not a good way to resolve the issues and he should approach it from a different and choose his battles wisely. He has no patience and loses his temper rather quickly. This is not ideal for since i have been in many abusive relationships. He has never physically hurt me but he is an extremely verbally abusive person. I have mentioned couples therapy and even single therapy to him since i myself have been in therapy off and on for 5 years but he refuses saying i am the one with the problems and i am the one who is single handedly destroying our relationship because i left the silverware drawer open an inch or because i asked him to clarify something i didn;t grasp right away. He loves to make fun of me and put me down. He loves to call me stupid and retarded. He has also been known to use B**** and the infamous C word that Women hate. He always attacks my character and whenever i try to defend myself it only adds badly which after reading this article only fuels his fire. I am a very passive person and not argumentative in any way. I don’t know what to do anymore. i am tired of feeling like the only one trying.
