Have suffered from Bruxism for years and there’s a strong family trait. I already have a night guard (we call them a splint in the UK) Ive bitten into this and although I wear it a lot it seems to make me snore! The dentist has said that the damage has got so bad that I ought to keep wearing the splint every night as the damage is impacting “aesthetically” now meaning the bruxism is really spoiling the appearance of my teeth. I’m going to address the stuff you mention above Mark to try and make a difference to my situ as the bruxism means I cannot have the cosmetic dentistry that I need to correct the damage!
Great article! But- does it actually work? I used to almost NEVER clenched my jaws at night (maybe 2-4 times per year, after a bad dream). But 1-2 weeks ago, I woke up with a sore jaw, and found myself clenching my teeth during the day, and at night as well. I’m hoping that it is only a temporary bad habit resulting from stress (due to an upcoming grad school admissions exam), but am not sure. Did your friend ever “cure” himself of the clenching by these methods?
Yes my friend did stop teeth grinding by using relaxation and making a few life-style changes. I’m sure you’ll get back to being free of this habit before long. Keep at it and who knows you may stop doing it as quickly as you started doing it.
