I was so facinated and interested when reading your artical, I wonder if you might be able to help me, I have suffered with sensitive hearing for as many years as I can remeber, my father was also very sensitive to noise. I have moved home many times because of this problem, and yet again I have very noisy neighbours and I just dont know what to do, I really don’t want to move house again, I will give anything a try if it will help me.
Kind regards Claire (desperate for any help!)

I never realized how much noises bother me. I wear ear plugs to bed. I can’t study with noise, so I go to the library and wear earphones to concentrate.

My husband has hearing loss at a level that keeps him from hearing things that drive me crazy. He will play solitare on a computer in another room. When he wins, fireworks go off. He will walk away leaving the endless fireworks that he doesn’t hear. Even if the volume is on low and I’m in another room, I have to go and turn it off.

Thank you for the insight of my problem.

Amazing, I thought I was isolated with this problem!

I have certain triggers that work for me too. I can be in a really motivated, positive mood getting my work done or thinking about something coming up I’m looking forward to, then… bang! I’ll hear the noise and I’m immediately angry, depressed, unmotivated and actively listening for it again.

    It really get’s me down.

Things that get me are creaking floorboards from our neighbour, the central heating boiler or cups tapping onto the ceramic table mats.

I have my own business and things are very stressful at the moment with the recession, so I’m guessing thats playing a part too.

Thanks for some insight into it and some very helpful advice, I will definitely be taking action to improve things…

We live right next to the train tracks of the MTA of NYC, so trains are passing all day long regularly, a bit less frequent on weekends.  When we first moved here I was not bothered by the noise, then once I entered my fifties, it became intolerable for me.  We can;t move for a few years yet and I am always tense and apprehensive due to this ongoing rumble nois passing our house.  I have asked neighbors oif the trains bother them and some say they do mot even notice them. Others say it lulls them to sleep at night. I wish I can change my reaction to the trains but right now am one big ball of anxiety.
